The loser of the Second Semi-Final,
Southport, came up
against the winner of the First Semi-Final, Mt Gravatt, in the Preliminary
Final at Coorparoo.
After an even opening, Mt Gravatt led the Sharks by two points at the first
break. Southport had the better of the second and third terms, opening
a lead of 23 points at three-quarter time.
Nine minutes into the last quarter, Mt Gravatt trailed by 24 points and
looked all but gone for the year. An inspired burst of eight goals
from that point, however, saw the Vultures register a great victory and end
Southport’s hopes of defending their crown.
Final scores were:
Mt Gravatt 17-12 (114)
Southport 14-9 (93)
Mt Gravatt therefore
progressed to the Grand Final, and in doing so, ended Southport’s season.
