2009 Grand Final
2009 Elimination Final
The fourth-placed Brisbane Lions came up
against fifth-placed Mt Gravatt in the Elimination Final at Giffin Park,
Coorparoo.
Mt Gravatt showed that their late season form, in which they won their last
four games in the minor round, was no fluke by convincingly downing the
Lions.
Although having led at every change, the Vultures were not assured of
victory until well into the final quarter, running away at the end to win by
45 points.
Final scores were:
Mt Gravatt 15-16 (106)
Brisbane Lions 8-13 (61)
Mt Gravatt therefore
progressed to the First Semi-Final, and in doing so, ended the Lions’
season.

at the AFLQ web site.
2009 Qualifying Final
The second-placed Southport came up
against third-placed Redland in the Qualifying Final at Fankhauser Reserve.
Southport shot out of the blocks, kicking eight goals in the first quarter
while holding Redland scoreless. By half-time the margin was out to 69
points and the game was virtually over.
Redland, who went into the game having never beaten the Sharks, kicked four
late goals to add some respectability to the scoreline.
Final scores were:
Southport 16-11 (107)
Redland 8-10 (58)
Southport therefore
progressed to the Second Semi-Final, with Redland to face Mt Gravatt in the
First Semi-Final.
