2009 First Semi-Final

The loser of the Qualifying Final, Redland, came up against the winner of the Elimination Final, Mt Gravatt, in the First Semi-Final at Victoria Point.

Mt Gravatt kicked an amazing eleven goals in the opening quarter to lead by 68 points at the first change, and Redland were left lamenting their second disastrous start in as many weeks.

It was too great a margin for the Bombers to reel in, and Mt Gravatt were never seriously threatened.

Final scores were:
Mt Gravatt 25-12 (162)
Redland 13-11 (89)

Mt Gravatt therefore progressed to the Preliminary Final, and in doing so, ended Redland’s season.

A detailed report of the game can be found here at the AFLQ web site.

2009 Second Semi-Final

Minor premiers Morningside came up against the winner of the Qualifying Final, Southport, in the Second Semi-Final at Esplen Oval.

Morningside kicked the first six goals of the game in an awe-inspiring start.  By half-time the margin was out to 56 points and the Sharks had no answers.

Southport marginally outscored the Panthers in the last quarter, but by then the match was well and truly decided.

Final scores were:
Morningside 20-14 (134)
Southport 8-14 (62)

Morningside therefore progressed to the Grand Final, with Southport to face Mt Gravatt in the Preliminary Final.
