The AFL Competition - Overview and History
Queenslanders in the VFL/AFL
Hoping to serve as inspiration to all young Queensland
footy players, here are all of the Queenslanders who have played in
the VFL/AFL competition and those who are on the verge of doing so.
It would be ideal to base inclusion here simply on State
of Origin criteria. However, the definition which identifies a
player’s home state for selection in State of Origin matches has been
constantly changed over the years. For example, Queensland-born and
raised Jason Dunstall has, at different stages, played State of Origin
football for both Queensland and Victoria.
Two of the most reasonable definitions which have been used in State of
Origin selections will therefore form the basis for inclusion here. A
player must have (i) lived in and played the
majority of his junior football in Queensland, or (ii) played his first
senior game in a Queensland-based competition.
The players are divided into four sections: (i) Current players, (ii) Past
players, (iii) Signed players yet to make
their AFL debut, and (iv) Near things: players who were on the verge of
playing in the VFL/AFL but for some reason did not.
